How to reduce high cholesterol by dieting
Cholesterol's primary source is the food we intake. Hence, a change in diet to eliminate the foods that causes elevated levels of cholesterol can help reduce cholesterol. Research has shown us that foods which are high in carbohydrates and trans fats result in elevated levels of cholesterol. Hence foods high in carbohydrates and trans fats, such as bread, rice, pasta, cereal, butter, and others should be eliminated from one's diet.
Dieting is a very effective method of reducing cholesterol levels when cases are not severe and in most cases of high cholesterol, dieting alone can reduce the amount of cholesterol in your body to safe amounts. Now, this is not to say that foods rich in carbohydrates need to be removed completely from your diet as the American nutritional period recommends 6 to 11 servings of grains (foods high in carbohydrates) a day. However, if one has a high amount of cholesterol, he or she should limit their consumption of grains closer to six or seven servings a day and increase their consumption of fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods.
In more severe cases, dieting alone is not enough to reduce cholesterol levels to safe amounts and in these instances medical operations often need to be undertaken. Hence, it is best to avoid this situation by watching your diet and monitoring your cholesterol level before it reaches unsafe amounts. The two main causes of cholesterol are the foods you eat and the cholesterol your body makes naturally due to your specific genetics. Watching your diet will take care of the dietary source of cholesterol.
The vast majority of the cholesterol in your body comes from the food you consume while a relatively small portion is the cholesterol which your body has produced. Hence, reduce the carbohydrates and trans fats in your diet to help reduce your cholesterol level.
